Carbon Emissions

The relevant carbon dioxide emissions for the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme are set at specific rates for different types of energy sources. These figures are determined in accordance with a British Standard, which is based on an average environmental rating. As a rough comparison:

1 tonne of CO2 emissions equals approximately:

  • 1.7 MWh of Electricity, or
  • 3.8 MWh of Oil, or
  • 5.2 MWh of Gas, or
  • 40.0 MWh of Biomass.

Due to the variance in emissions per Mega Watt hour, the Carbon Tax that is payable will vary depending on the fuel profile. Using our Carbon Tax Estimator you can assess how different fuels will impact on the tax you could be paying.
